A historical film on the life and teaching of Siddharta Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, will be shortly begin production in India and Sri Lanka, Countries with Buddhist majorities, and will be shown in 2009.
"The message of the film gives replies to global crises and environmental problems", said Navin Goonerathe, the President of the Light of Asia Foundation, co-producer of the film and based in Sri Lanka.
The film, entiteled "The Buddha", is being co-produced by the Indian company Beyond Dreams Entertainment and directed by the Indian director Shyam Benegal and si scheduled for mid 2009.
A Sri Lankan specialised in Buddhism, Nimal D'Silva, will be at the head of a team of researchers including experts from China, Japan and South Korea, countries where Buddhism is prevalent.
